The below information is a brief summary of customs regulations when you plan your international shipping to Rwanda, Always double check with your local embassy or consulate to make sure you have all the information you need before you make your move. Contact the nearest Rwanda Embassy.

Documentation required for household goods importation


* Copy of Valid Passport
* Letter from the employer explaining that the clien is starting a new contract
* Packing List
* Original Bill of Lading (No Express Release Accepted) / AWB
* Freight Invoice or OBL showing the freight price
* Original inventory in English or French dated, valued and signed by shipper
* Invoices for the electrical and hi-fi appliances
* Copy of Rwanda visa to benefit exoneration (private company)

* Documents have to be express mailed 15 to 30 days before shipment’s arrival in order for the shipper’s employer to apply for the possible duty free exemption certificate.

CUSTOMS REGULATIONS

A certificate for free entry must be obtained from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In that case the shipper will onl have to pay a 1% handling charges on CIF value.
Alcohol and other spirits: only the mention “fond de cave” (less than 15 bottles) is acceptable. 
If the value is higher thatn USD 5000 shipper must apply for a license permit, and a certificate of checking has to be delivered by an inspection company at the departure point. In that case it should be sent separately from the HHG’s. 
If the shipper doesn’t benefit from an exemption he will have to pay customs duties.

MOTOR VEHICLES

Documents Needed for Shipping Vehicles

* Original Registration Card
* Copy of Valid Passport
* Original rated bill of lading
* Original Invoice of the Car
* Chassis number and weight of the vehicle must be stated on the OBL

If the shipper benefit from and exemption, he will have only to pay a 1% handling charges of the CIF value.
Customs duties: 45% of the CIF value (if new) / 25% of CIF value (if used) plus handling of 4% of CIF value plus ICHA 15% of the total (CIF + Handling + Customs Duties).
