The federal Smartway program recognized teams at Ikea, Kraft Foods, Pepsico, Lowe’s and J.B. Hunt for making achievements in environmentally sound transportation.

The team of shipper-based Coalition for Responsible Transportation and the Environmental Defense Fund was also acknowledged for working to save fuel, reduce emissions and improve economic sustainability. The annual awards, known as Smartway Champions, recognize contributions made by companies and individuals to “green our nation’s supply chain,” according to the Environmental Protection Agency program.

The team winners include: CRT’s James Jack, along with EDF’s Mark MacLeod Elena Craft; J.B. Hunt’s Kristi Noland and Gary Whicker; Kraft’s Harry Haney, Michael Cole and Timothy Dzojko; Lowe’s Steve Palmer and Kevin Perry; and Pepsico’s Mark Whittaker and John Sheehy. Ikea’s team members were not listed.

In the individual category, winners include: Glen Kedize of the American Trucking Associations; Mitch England of C.R. England Global Transportation; Mark Servidio of Sharp; Dave Berry of Swift Transportation; Dave Guernsey of UPS; and Mike Kelley of YRC Worldwide.
