GEORGIA

The below information is a brief summary of customs regulations when you plan your international shipping to Georgia. Always double check with your local embassy or consulate to make sure you have all the information you need before you make your move. Contact the nearest  Georgia Embassy.

For Household goods and personal effects

·  The consignee should be present at the destination and must have a valid Georgian visa.

·  The consignee should be employed by a registered company in Georgia.

·  The company mentioned as the consignee, must be registered in Georgia.

·  Household goods and personal effects is considered as commercial cargo in Georgia and is subject to payment of import customs duties, fee and VAT. Some companies, Most Humanitarian Organisation and all Embassies are exempt from paying duties on Household goods and personal effects. If the consignee is not certain whether they have to pay duties or not, they must contact their office in Tbilisi or contact a member of Globalink staff on the above mentioned numbers.

·  All import duties are charged on C.I.F. (cost, insurance and freight) value.

·  Household goods and personal effects can be Temporary imported in to Georgia for the period of one year. After the one year is up the shipment should be exported out of Georgia or Full Customs Duties must be paid.

·  Importation of pets is allowed but the following documents are required: (1) Vaccination Certificate
(2)Veterinary Certificate

·  Auto cars and motorcycles can be imported duty and tax-free on temporary import basis for a period of one year. It is possible to extend this temporary import for an additional year maximum.

·  Temporary import auto car and motor cycles must be exported out of Georgia at the end of expire date of Temporary import.

·  Permanent import of auto cars and motorcycles are subject to the tax and duties as per customs tariff.

·  To customs clear vehicles all technical documents most be forwarded to our office in advance of the vehicle arriving into Georgia. These documents most clearly show the following details (1) Make & Model of vehicle (2) Year of manufacture  (3) Colour (4)Chassis & Engine numbers (5) Origin of vehicle 

SPECIAL INSTRUCTION FOR IMPORT OF THE CARPETS, PAINTING, ART EFFECT, ANTIQUES AND ITEMS OF HISTORICAL VALUE.

·  When importing carpets, paintings, art effect, antiques and item of historical value into Georgia, it is strongly suggested that a set of original photographs per item accompanies the shipping documentation. Duplicate photographs of each item should be sent to our office in advance by courier, enabling us to get the customs endorsement on the back of each photograph at the time of import customs inspection of the shipment. This will help the owner tremendously to avoid problems with customs authorities at the time of export of these items out of Georgia. The photograph must have dimensions and value of the item shown, mentioned where possible on the back or front of each photo.

·  Export of locally purchased carpets and paintings is allowed, unless the items are not considered antique and of cultural value. The permission from Georgian Ministry of Culture is required to export locally purchased carpets, paintings, art effect, antiques and other art effects. 

Documents required for IMPORT CUSTOMS CLEARANCE Household Goods and Personal Effects:

·  COPY OF PASSPORT

·  COPY OF VALID GEORGIAN VISA

·  VALUED INVENTORY IN ENGLISH

·  POWER OF ATTORNEY FROM YOUR RIGISTERED COMPANY IN GEORGIA

Documents required for IMPORT CUSTOMS CLEARANCE of General Cargo:

·  SHIPPING INVOICE

·  POWER OF ATTORNEY

Documents required for IMPORT CUSTOMS CLEARANCE of Auto cars and motorcycles:

·  CERT OF ORIGIN.

·  COMPLETE VEHICLE TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION.

·  CONTRACT BETWEEN SHIPPER & CONSIGNEE.

·  POWER OF ATTORNEY. 

IMPORT OF WINE AND SPIRITS:

·  The allowance limit for the import of wine and spirits for personal consumption is one litre per head. All in excess is subject to duties and taxes as following:

·  US$1.00/-per litter -excise duty

·  Up to 30% of value -customs duty (depending on the % of alcohol)

·  20% of value -VAT

·  0.2% of value -customs procedures duty. 

IMPORTANT: 

·  Valued inventory is strictly required for customs clearance. Valued inventory should state clearly the box number, items contain in the box, quantity of items contained in the box, the value of each individual item in the box.

·  Valued inventory lists are purely required for customs purpose and therefore the value does not have to be the same as used for insurance purpose. However, it is strictly advised not to enclose the list used for insurance purpose along with the shipping documents. 

HELPFUL TIPS:

·  Mark the AWB / CMR / Used household goods and personal effects”.

·  Do not attach the inventory list used for insurance purpose with shipping documents enclosed with the shipment.

·  Two Photographs per carpets, paintings, art effect, antiques and items of historical value should be taking before packing. One set of photos should accompany the original shipping documents with the shipment and the duplicate copies should be sent to our office in advance of shipment arriving into Georgia. The photograph must have dimensions and value of the item shown, mentioned where possible on the back or front of each photo.

·  Please ask for consignment instructions before sending the shipment in order to avoid any extra storage/ demurrage charges.
