BURUNDI

The below information is a brief summary of customs regulations when you plan your international shipping to Burundi. Always double check with your local embassy or consulate to make sure you have all the information you need before you make your move. Contact the nearest  Burundi Embassy.

-Copy of valid passport
-Letter from the employer explaning that the client is starting a new contract
-Invoices for thr electrical and hi-fi appliances
-Copy of Burundi visa to benefit from exoneration (PRIVATE COMPANY)

Documents have be express mailed 15 to 30 days before shipments arrival in order to the shipper’s employer to apply for the possible duty free exemption certificate.

CUSTOMS REGULATIONS

-A certificate for free entry must be obtained from the ministry of foreingn affairs.
-In that case,the shipper will only have to pay a 1% handling charges on CIF value
-Alcohol and other spirits :only the mention “fond the cave”(less than 15 bottles)
is acceptable.If the value is over USD 5,000 shipper must apply for a license permit,and a certificate of checking has to be delivered by an inspection company at the departure point.
In that case it should be sent separately from the HHG’s.
If the shipper doesn’t benefit from an exemption he will have to pay customs duties.

All new items are subjet to the payment of customs duties and taxes.

GENERAL DUTY RATES ON HHG’s:

-Customs duties (according to the current tariff)
+Handing 4% of CIF Value
+Transactional tax(tt):17%of the total (CIF +handling+customs duties)
-Clothes:40% of CIF Value
-Food: 40% of CIF Value
-Personal effects:25%of CIF Value

PROHIBITED ARTICLES

-Firearms weapons ,ammunitions and drug
-Transmission equipment

MOTOR VEHICLES:

Customs Regulations and Documents needed 
-Original registration card 
-Copy of valid passport
-Original invoice of the car
Chassis number and weight of the vehicle .

DUTY RATES ON CARS:

-If the shipper beneficts from an exemption,he will have to pay only a 1% handling charges of the CIF Value
-If the vehicle is used for transporting more than 10 people:15%of the CIF value
-Tourism vehicle:
Vehicle with less than 13 fiscal power :40% of the CIF value
Vehicle over 13 fiscal power :100%of the CIF value
+Handling 4% of the CIF value
+TT 17% of the total (CIF+handling+customs duties)
